Dead batteries and damaged immobilizer chips can cause anti-theft devices to stop working properly. Here are three ways to turn off your car alarm.
Anti-theft systems are designed to prevent your vehicle from being stolen. These systems are constantly evolving. Basically, the way they work is to cut off an electrical circuit to somehow prevent the power from being delivered so that your car doesn't start or stall right away. The anti-theft system may also include a car alarm or it may simply be an engine immobilizer.
It is possible that the anti-theft system in your car will not work correctly at some point. This can be for many reasons, including a dead car battery losing key memory or a dead battery in the remote control. It could also be that your immobilizer chip in your key is damaged or your car door lock is damaged.
If your car's anti-theft system isn't working properly, you'll need to find a way to disable the system to get your car back to normal.
Method 1 of 3: Check Key and Cylinder
Step 1. Check the key fob battery.. The vehicle's anti-theft system may activate if your key fob's battery is low and has not disabled the system.
Make sure the battery is properly installed in the key fob. If the battery is installed correctly, replace it with a new battery and try again.
Step 2: Check the door lock cylinder.. If your vehicle was damaged in an attempted theft or break-in, the anti-theft system may have been triggered.
Check for damage on the lock cylinder itself or under the doorknob where would-be thieves could pierce with a screwdriver. If the lock is damaged, try using the passenger side cylinder if your car has one.
- Attention: Although the driver side door lock is damaged, the passenger door is usually not damaged.
Step 3. Make sure you are using the correct key to start the car.. Many cars have a "valet" or door key that only performs certain functions, such as unlocking the doors.
"Valet" keys are often distinguished by a "V" on the key stem, or a different colored key head. The key you are using may not have the chip needed to start the car.
Method 2 of 3: Turn on the ignition
If the anti-theft system has blocked your engine, you will not be able to start it. You will have to disable it with these steps.
Step 1: Check the anti-theft indicator.. It is located on the dashboard and will glow blue or red.
Step 2: Turn the ignition to the "on" position.. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position, which activates your accessories but not the engine.
Leave the key in this position for about 10-15 minutes.
Step 3: Check the anti-theft indicator again.. If it no longer flashes, turn the key back to the off position. and let it sit for a minute or two.
This gives the system time to reset, otherwise you won't be able to start the car.
Step 4: start the engine. Try to start the engine.
If it still won't start, check if the battery is dead.
Step 5: Repeat the process. Try repeating the process again to see if it works.
Method 3 of 3: use the key in the car door
Step 1: Insert the key into the lock on the door.. Use the driver's side door and physical key, even if your vehicle is equipped with a keyless entry system.
Step 2: Turn the key. Turn the key to open the car door, but don't let go.
Hold the key in this position for 20 to 30 seconds. This will let the system know you have the correct key and allow you to bypass the alarm system. Some vehicles recognize the key by simply turning the key in the door lock cylinder back and forth.
- Functions: Try turning the key fully in both directions to disable the anti-theft system.
Step 3: Try to start the engine. Remove the key and try to start the engine.
Be sure to leave the key cylinder in the unlocked position.
An anti-theft system that prevents your car from working properly is a nuisance, and while you may be grateful for it in the event of a crime, it now gives you a lot of inconvenience, which we hope has helped you solve it. . If your car still won't start, you should consult an AvtoTachki specialist to determine if there is another problem that is preventing your car from starting.
